Mobile Data Terminals

Mobile data terminals (MDTs) are electronic devices, e.g. hand-held scanners, which are used by the picker to look up items or enter them into the system.

The device helps with the acknowledgement of pick positions, the communication of shortages and the integration of warehouse management software. The advantages of mobile data devices are real-time communication, increased flexibility and time savings. A potential disadvantage can be reduced picking performance. Moreover, only one hand is free for working. In this case, technologies such as pick by voice or pick by light can contribute to optimised supply chain management.
