Shirts, shoes and trousers – as a leading specialist for fashion logistics, Meyer & Meyer Holding SE & Co. KG manages the entire goods cycle in the textile industry. The logistics centre in Peine plays a key role in this. Since the middle of last year, the Osnabrück-based family business has been collecting, storing, picking and distributing the articles of a large German fashion company there. In Ehrhardt Partner Group (EPG), the logistics service provider found a specialist in supply chain software that enabled the project to be implemented in a timely manner. EPG's logistics experts put the LFS warehouse management system into operation in just six months.
The fashion label is not the only Meyer & Meyer customer whose flow of goods is controlled using LFS – but it is the largest so far. When the logistics service provider was awarded the contract for the fashion company's contract logistics, Meyer & Meyer was faced with the challenge of implementing the customer at the site, putting fashion-specific processes into practice within the project and introducing a new warehouse management system (WMS) for Meyer & Meyer and for the operational team at the site in Peine within six months. "We needed a system that could be implemented quickly, was variably scalable and responded flexibly to the new requirements," says Meike Gramann, Manager Design & Implementation at Meyer & Meyer. EPG had already successfully implemented LFS for one of the logistics specialist's customers in Wittenberge, Brandenburg, in February 2022.
Tight schedule and high demands on LFS
In addition to the high level of resilience and excellent performance, it was crucial for Meyer & Meyer that LFS is a software that can be set up quickly for a customer. "We also place major emphasis on user-friendliness and on the system offering a great deal of configuration options for the key user," Gramann explains. For EPG, Jan Aumann, Manager Customer Projects, supervised the implementation. He speaks of an agile, uncomplicated and trusting cooperation between all three project partners. This was the only way to successfully implement the project within the tight schedule. "We absolutely had to meet the go-live date in mid-June. The demands on our LFS were correspondingly high," says Aumann.
LFS integrated seamlessly into the existing IT landscape
After the first six months, Meyer & Meyer give a positive verdict. LFS has integrated seamlessly into the existing IT landscape and is highly reliable. "We are seeing great performance in event and job processing times. The processes stabilised very quickly after the go-live. Our productivity is continuously increasing," Gramann explains. From Peine, Meyer & Meyer almost exclusively organises the storage and worldwide transport of men's fashion for the fashion label's branches or regional warehouses.
Meyer & Meyer optimises order picking and minimises time expenditure
Thanks to LFS' modular structure with its easy-to-integrate add-ons, two-stage order picking, which Meyer & Meyer placed particular emphasis on during implementation, is possible. The fashion specialist can therefore easily put together batches and integrate multi-order picking. Batches are formed during the first step, which are then allocated to the respective orders and broken up again on the sorting wall during the second stage. "With the help of LFS, we obtain the necessary order data via the web-based system. Using this data, we can create order pools from which batches are then generated that we can process according to urgency and other characteristics. In this way, we optimise order picking and minimise the time required," Gramann explains. This is also a crucial factor, especially during seasonal peak times such as spring or autumn. In addition, the integration of the customer's web service solution for labelling boxes and marking parts was successful. Thanks to its open interfaces, LFS fits optimally into the existing IT infrastructure. "Communication interfaces to all commercially available systems are just as much a matter of course for LFS as the simple connection of customised software systems," explains Aumann.
Further EPG Suite software solutions planned
Meyer & Meyer is already planning further implementation and system integration projects with EPG. For example, the International Shipping System (ISS), which takes care of all shipping logistics, and the Supply Chain Control Tower Timesquare, the dashboard for efficient process monitoring, are set to be rolled out further within the group of companies. Meyer & Meyer already works for other customers with these software solutions from EPG. The company plans to connect existing automation solutions such as a shuttle warehouse at the Peine site.
