Andreas Schmid Kontrakt Logistik GmbH all set for continued success with LFS

Andreas Schmid founded the transport company of the same name right back in 1928. Since then, the company has developed into a leading service provider in logistics and IT, thanks in large part to the logistics specialist's track record providing innovative, customised logistics solutions that deliver lasting success for its customers all around the world. To continue its track record and safeguard its success, the full-service provider of integrated logistics solutions has introduced the LFS warehouse management system.

Improving stock reliability with digitalised logistics processes

"The LFS warehouse management system was primarily chosen because of EPG's innovative strength", says Daniel Grimpe, Project Manager at Andreas Schmid. "LFS is so attractive because its great flexibility, modularity and innovation, which are crucial for our business. We want to drive forward digitalisation and run on state-of-the-art technologies to provide our customers with services that are fit for the future".

The warehouse at the Gersthofen sites has 275,000 m² of storage space and a pallet capacity of 170,000 spaces on flow rack, shelf rack and high bay storage. The aim of using LFS is to achieve a significantly greater stock reliability. The logistics specialist also wants to reduce the workload on its employees, thereby also increasing efficiency and quality. "Before introducing LFS, we carried out a lot of processes manually at the operational level. We used to spend a lot of effort preparing, sorting and providing paper lists, for example. Our warehouse employees then picked orders on paper and without a scanner. The whole process was very time-consuming for our employees and placed a lot of responsibility on them", explains Daniel Grimpe.

No more sorting paper lists!

LFS has put an end to using paper lists. Andreas Schmid Kontrakt Logistik usually receives goods via sea container or overland transport. LFS is used to prepare and label the pallets and assign them to a unique bin location. When goods are retrieved for an order, a barcode scanner for picking and to enter the associated data. LFS then brings the goods to the correct packing station to prepare them for final dispatch. Using LFS Cockpit, every employee has a precise overview of all these logistical processes and the incoming orders at all times.

Zero level stock taking also plays a part in the increased stock reliability provided by LFS. This is because, as soon as a bin location is empty, LFS asks the relevant warehouse employee to confirm digitally using a scanner. This ongoing stock taking at the bin level means that LFS can provide a continuous overview of current stock. It also simplifies intralogistics stocktaking on a specific key date.

"EPG is a partner we want to work with for the long term", says Daniel Grimpe. "For the future, we are planning to gradually introduce more features from EPG, alongside the ISS International Shipping System, which we just recently started using operationally". ISS went live at the logistics specialist at the same time as the LFS warehouse management system and covers all handling for shipping logistics – simply, efficiently and always in accordance with the current specifications of CEP and forwarding service providers.
