Warehouse management system implemented in just six weeks

Recht Kontraktlogistik GmbH is a service company that provides warehousing, co-packing, value added services and transport, thereby managing the entire goods cycle in the supply chain. In February this year, it took over an empty warehouse in Castrop-Rauxel. The company's aim was to have the site up and running within a few weeks. Implementing a new warehouse management system was an essential part of the process. The service provider chose to work with the Ehrhardt Partner Group (EPG), because the supply chain software specialist made it possible for the project to be implemented rapidly. The logistics experts at EPG got their LFS warehouse management system up and running in just six weeks. And for the very first inventory in the new warehouse, the EPG solution came out with an inventory difference of less than 0.1 percent.

Recht Kontraktlogistik GmbH is a newly founded company that has succeeded Recht Logistik GmbH. At the beginning of this year, the transport and logistics company from Brühl in North Rhine-Westphalia was faced with the challenge of continuing to meet extremely dynamic customer growth with its former contract logistics service provider. Ultimately, the company decided to handle contract logistics itself in the future, leading to the creation of Recht Kontraktlogistik GmbH, which took over a warehouse of around 25,000 square metres in Castrop-Rauxel in February. To serve their customers' interests soon and to start recording the first goods receipt as quickly as possible, the service provider's goal was to have the warehouse fully operational within just a few weeks.

"We had set ourselves a tight schedule, so the requirements for a warehouse management system were correspondingly high", explains Matthias Weiner, Managing Partner at Recht Kontraktlogistik. "We needed a system that could be implemented quickly, is scalable and variable and had already demonstrated its quality in different sectors and industries. We also had to keep an eye on the issue of resources".

Weiner knows his way around the logistics industry. He worked for Kuehne + Nagel in various roles for more than 20 years. "EPG's solutions enjoy an excellent reputation in the industry and are therefore used by many companies. So we knew that the LFS is a resilient and high-performance system, delivering technology that is the very latest state of the art. So we got in touch with EPG straight away", says Weiner.

Peter Amos, Key Account Manager International Sales, was responsible for coordinating the project for the group of companies. "Agile, fast, uncomplicated: that was implementation of the LFS", says Amos, looking back. "Recht Kontraktlogistik is a very interesting company with enormous potential for growth. To exploit that potential in the long term, you need a system like EPG's LFS that has maximum flexibility and extensibility".

The first goods were received in Castrop-Rauxel in March. Since then, parts for machine tools and gardening equipment have been stored, picked and packed at the warehouse. Just a few months after successfully going live, Recht Kontraktlogistik and EPG completed another project together, implementing the LFS at Recht Kontraktlogistik's second site in Bochum. Recht Kontraktlogistik took over a warehouse that had already been set up in the city and, thanks to energetic assistance from the experts at EPG, got it up and running within a few days without any noticeable interruption to delivery for customers. In addition to Castrop-Rauxel and Bochum, Recht Kontraktlogistik, which now employs around 90 people, also operates as an in-house logistics service provider in Obertraubling near Regensburg.

In addition to the LFS, the logistics service provider now also uses EPG's International Shipping System (ISS), which handles the entire shipping logistics process – simply, efficiently and always in accordance with the current specifications of CEP and forwarding service providers.

"The LFS integrated seamlessly into our IT landscape and is a high-performance and reliable solution", says Weiner, adding that feedback from staff who work with the software on a daily basis is also very positive. "According to our employees, the LFS is popular in particular because it is very user-friendly". Weiner is particularly impressed by the paperless inventory, which runs fully automatically thanks to the EPG solution. "Our inventory difference was well below 0.1 per cent, which is an outstanding figure".
